Immerse yourself in the nature and culture of the Dominican Republic with this combo tour from Juan Dolio: enjoy a safari truck ride through the sugar cane plantations, explore Higüey and take a boat trip on the Chavón River.

Higüey, Sugar Cane Plantations & Chavón River Boat Trip

After picking you up from your hotel in Juan Dolio at 9 am, we'll board the safari trucks for a tour of the sugar cane plantations of the Dominican Republic. We will drive through the south of the island over rough terrain until we reach the sugar cane plantations near the village of Benérito. You will have the opportunity to taste locally-grown sugar cane at the weighing station.

We will then visit a nearby village, or batey, to learn about local life. The next stop is the city of Higüey, where you will see how Dominican cigars are made at an organic tobacco factory. After exploring the market of Higüey and its tropical fruits, we will enter the Basilica of the Virgin of Altagracia, the main church in the city, followed by a typical Dominican lunch.

The highlight will be a boat trip on the Chavón River. On the traditional boat, you will admire the natural environment and spot iguanas, exotic birds, and various plants. Finally, we will return to the safari truck to head back to Juan Dolio, arriving at hotels at 5 pm.
