Higüey, Sugar Cane Plantations & Chavón River Boat Trip

After picking you up from your hotel in Juan Dolio at 9 am, we'll board the safari trucks for a tour of the sugar cane plantations of the Dominican Republic. We will drive through the south of the island over uneven terrain until we reach the sugar cane plantations surrounding the village of Benérito. Enjoy the rural landscapes and visit the weighing station, where you'll have the opportunity to taste locally-grown sugar cane.

Next, we'll head to a nearby village, or batey, to learn about local life. The tour continues to the city of Higüey, where you'll learn how Dominican cigars are made at an organic tobacco factory. After exploring the market of Higüey and discovering tropical fruits, we will visit the Basilica of the Virgin of Altagracia, the most important church in the city. A typical Dominican lunch will be provided.

The highlight of the tour is a boat trip on the Chavón River. On board a traditional boat, you'll admire the natural environment and see iguanas, exotic birds, and various plants. Finally, we will return to the safari truck and make our way back to Juan Dolio, arriving at hotels at 5 pm.
