Description
At the indicated time, we will meet at 3 Lepelstraat to start this guided tour of Haarlem. The tour covers the main sights of this medieval city, which has remained largely preserved.
From the Grote Markt, Haarlem's main square, you can see the façade of St. Bavo's Cathedral, a key example of Dutch Gothic architecture. Adjacent to the church is a sculpture honoring Laurens Janszoon Coster, a pioneer of printing.
We will stroll through the city's streets while discussing its history, including the fact that its residents were among the first settlers of New York, with a neighborhood still named Harlem in the city.
The tour covers significant monuments, such as the Amsterdamse Poort, one of the gateways of the old city wall, and the exterior of the Teyler Museum, which served as a refuge for Jews during the Second World War.
Additionally, we will discuss Spain's connections with Haarlem and why it is known as the City of Flowers. This 2-hour tour will conclude with a farewell in the city center.
