On this guided tour of Haarlem, we'll discover the history of one of the oldest cities in the Netherlands.
Description
At the indicated time, we will meet at 3 Lepelstraat to start the guided tour of Haarlem. We will explore the must-see sights of this medieval city.
From the Grote Markt, you can admire the façade of St. Bavo's Cathedral, a significant example of Dutch Gothic architecture. Next to the church is a sculpture in honour of Laurens Janszoon Coster, a pioneer of printing.
We will stroll through the city streets, revealing its history, including the fact that its inhabitants were the first settlers of New York, reflected in the neighbourhood known as Harlem in the Big Apple.
The tour includes discussions about the city's past and its notable figures as we see monuments such as the Amsterdamse Poort and the exterior of the Teyler Museum, which served as a refuge for Jews during the Second World War.
We will also explore Spain's connections with Haarlem and discover why it is known as the City of Flowers. The tour lasts for 2 hours, concluding with a farewell in the city centre.
