The island is home to the historic Fort Warren and features one of the largest Civil War recreations in the country. Built in 1833 to protect the area during the war, the fort offers insights into the region's history. To return to Halifax, take any ferry departing from the island's port. Ferries run from 10:20 am to 3 pm with a frequency of every 40 minutes.
