A 19th-century shipwreck lies at the bottom of the sea off Havana's coast. This snorkelling activity allows you to explore it and learn its history.
Snorkelling in Havana
In the late 19th century, conflicts arose involving Spain, the United States, and Cuba. Remains of this conflict are submerged in the Caribbean Sea. The tour begins with a pickup at 9:30 am from the entrance of Havana's National Museum of Fine Arts in a classic 1950s American car.
After a 30-minute drive to the beaches located 10 kilometres east of Havana, participants will receive an introductory class with safety protocols and warm-up exercises. Following this, snorkeling gear will be provided, accompanied by two guides with buoyancy aids for safety.
Depending on sea conditions and group fitness, participants will swim to one of two shipwrecks: the City of Alexandria (300 metres from shore, one hour round trip) or the SS Olivette (750 metres from shore, one and a half hours round trip). The SS Olivette sank in 1918, and the City of Alexandria in 1893. Both are significant in Cuban history. The activity concludes with a return to shore for refreshing coconut water.
Participants will return to the starting point at 2 pm in the classic American car.
