A 19th-century shipwreck is located off the coast of Havana, available for exploration through snorkeling, where participants can learn about its history.
Snorkelling in Havana
This activity takes place in the late 19th century context of a conflict involving Spain, the United States, and Cuba. Participants will be picked up at 9:30 am from the Havana's National Museum of Fine Arts in a classic 1950s American car.
After a 30-minute drive to the beach, an introductory class will be provided, covering safety rules and physical warm-up exercises. Participants will then don snorkeling gear. Two guides will accompany the group, equipped with buoyancy aids for safety.
Depending on conditions and group fitness, swimmers will explore one of two shipwrecks: the City of Alexandria (300 meters away, about a one-hour swim) or the SS Olivette (750 meters away, approximately a one and a half hours swim). The SS Olivette sank in 1918 while the City of Alexandria sank in 1893, both of significant Cuban history. After the dive, participants will return to the shore for a refreshing coconut water.
At 2 pm, participants will change out of wetsuits and return to the starting point in the same classic American car.
