Do you know about the Yoruba religion and santería? Delve into the deepest secrets of this religion with this tour of Havana.
Yoruba Religion Tour
At 10 am, our journey into the Yoruba religion begins as we gather at Central Plaza. From there, we'll stroll towards the Casa de Africa Museum.
During the 15-minute walk, we will pass through iconic Obispo Street. Keep an eye out for santeros (Yoruba priests) in their first year of initiation, dressed in traditional white attire.
Upon reaching the museum, immerse yourself in the profound secrets of the Yoruba religion, which originated in West Africa and arrived in Cuba during the colonial period through enslaved individuals. Santería may sound familiar.
A brief drive will then take us to Hamel Alley, the center of Afro-Cuban culture in the city. Here, enjoy typical music and admire the vibrant murals. You'll also have free time to explore this area on your own.
Continuing our journey, we'll visit the home of a santera, one of the most intriguing spots in Havana, where the priestess will share insights into various rituals of the Yoruba religion. Feel free to ask her about your future.
Our guided tour concludes around 2 pm as we return to the starting point.
