Heraklion Food Tour

We will convene at the appointed hour near the Statue of the Unknown Soldier located in Eleftherias Square. Once the group is assembled, we will embark on our food adventure in Heraklion, diving into the rich culinary landscape of Crete.

As we wander through the historic center of Heraklion, there will be a total of 8 stops where we can sample authentic local delicacies and understand their preparation. Our discussion will highlight what sets Cretan cuisine apart from other Mediterranean diets while we stroll through the city’s charming neighborhoods.

We will kick off our experience with a refreshing Greek coffee, during which we will explore its significance in the local culture. You’ll even have the chance to try "cup-reading," where we will interpret the coffee grounds for insights into the future. Additionally, we will indulge in a delightful bougatsa cake, a sweet specialty of Heraklion.

Next, our path will lead us to a local market where we will taste an array of goodies such as olives, cheese, biscuits, and Cretan olive oil. Throughout the tour, we will engage with bakers, fishmongers, butchers, cheesemongers, and other artisans who will provide insights into the essence of Cretan cuisine.

Our culinary exploration will also include organic meats, fried snails, and exquisite Cretan wines—providing a truly immersive gastronomic experience.

After four enriching hours of exploration and tasting, we will conclude our Heraklion food tour at the same location where we began.
