Join us on a day excursion to Rethymno from Heraklion, where we will explore the rich medieval heritage of one of Crete's most enchanting towns. The journey will also take us to the historic Arkadi Monastery.
Tour Overview
We will convene at the designated meeting spot in front of the Heraklion Archaeological Museum. Our thrilling day excursion to Rethymno and the Arkadi Monastery will then commence. Prepare to delve into one of Greece's best-preserved medieval towns!
Our first destination is Margarites, a quaint village famous for its pottery craftsmanship. Here, a brief stroll through charming streets will allow you to admire the striking architecture that characterizes this area.
Next, we will proceed to the Arkadi Monastery, a historic landmark in Crete. This impressive Venetian structure, showcasing Romanesque and Baroque architectural styles, serves as a poignant symbol of Cretan resistance during the Ottoman era. We will provide insights into this significant chapter of history!
Our exploration continues in Rethymno, regarded as one of the island's most picturesque cities. We will wander through the ancient town until we arrive at the Fortress, perched atop Paleokastro hill. This grand edifice is a prominent feature of the town, offering breathtaking views of the surroundings.
After this historical journey, we will return along the northern coastline, traveling by the Cretan Sea as we pass through the lovely seaside villages of Bali, Fodele, and Agia Pelagia.
We will conclude our adventure at the initial meeting point, approximately 9.5 hours after we set off.
