On this day trip to Rethymno from Heraklion, we will explore the medieval heritage of one of Crete's most beautiful towns and visit the Arkadi Monastery.
Tour Details
We will meet at the Heraklion Archaeological Museum at the specified time to begin our day trip to Rethymno and the Arkadi Monastery. Our first stop will be Margarites, a village known for its pottery tradition, where we will stroll through its alleys to appreciate its distinctive architecture.
Next, we will visit the Arkadi Monastery, a historic site in Crete. This Venetian building, showcasing Romanesque and Baroque styles, symbolizes freedom for Cretans because of its significant role during the Ottoman period. Information about this historical period will be provided during our visit.
We will then proceed to Rethymno, known for its beauty. Our tour will include a walk through the old town, culminating at the Fortress on Paleokastro hill, which offers extensive views of the city.
After our historical exploration, we will return along the northern coast of the island by the Cretan Sea, passing through the coastal villages of Bali, Fodele, and Agia Pelagia.
We will conclude the tour at the starting point 9.5 hours after the activity commences.
