On this day trip to Rethymno from Heraklion, participants will explore the medieval past of a notable town in Crete and visit the historical Arkadi Monastery.
Tour Details
At the specified time, the meeting point will be in front of the Heraklion Archaeological Museum. The trip will begin towards Rethymno and the Arkadi Monastery, providing an opportunity to discover one of Greece's best-preserved medieval towns.
The first stop will be in Margarites, a village known for its pottery tradition, where participants will take a short walk through picturesque alleys to admire its architecture.
Next, the tour will head to the Arkadi Monastery, a historic site characterized by its Venetian architecture in Romanesque and Baroque style. The monastery holds significant historical importance as a symbol of freedom during the Ottoman period, with insights provided about this era.
The journey will continue in Rethymno, where the old town will be explored, culminating at the Fortress atop Paleokastro hill, offering panoramic views of the town.
The return journey will follow the northern coastline of the island along the Cretan Sea, passing through the coastal villages of Bali, Fodele, and Agia Pelagia.
