La Pintada Archeological Site Hiking Tour

We will pick you up from your hotel in Hermosillo and travel to the archaeological site of La Pintada, where we will embark on a hiking route.

After arriving approximately one hour later, we will hike between 2.5 and 3.7 miles (4 and 6 kilometers) to explore the site. Located in a desert plain in Sonora, La Pintada showcases vestiges from 700 AD to 1500 AD.

In the caves, you will see countless cave paintings, a collection of more than 2,000 works reflecting how different ethnic groups viewed their surroundings. We will discuss the sacred rituals performed here and the shelter it provided to the Seri and Yaqui indigenous peoples during the Spanish colonization.

As we explore the site, we will encounter various plant species including ocotillo, palo fierro (ironwood), mesquite, and gobernadora (greasewood). After completing the hiking route, we will enjoy a delicious lunch with grilled meat.

Following lunch, we will return to Hermosillo, arriving approximately 10 hours later.
