3-Day Tour of Tantamayo

Ancient ruins, lost civilizations, imposing fortresses... Join us on this 3-day excursion to Tantamayo from Huanuco to experience all of these wonders and much more in central Peru!

3-Day Tour of Tantamayo

Day 1: Huanuco - Kotosh - Tantamayo

The tour will commence at 9 am when we pick you up at your hotel in Huanuco and commence our six-hour drive to Tantamayo. We will stop at the archaeological site of Kotosh, home of the temple of the Crossed Hands. Our journey through the valley of the Marañon River will lead us to the village of Tantamayo, where we will check into the lodge and have free time to explore the town and its 16th-century church.

Day 2: Tantamayo

After breakfast, we will visit the archaeological center of Tantamayo. Following a 35-minute walk, we will reach the Piruro sector, notable for its yarowilca constructions up to 12 meters high. The tour continues to the Selmin Granero sector before returning to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, we will hike for 40 minutes to reach Susopillo, the highest point in Tantamayo, where we will see a fortress and other ancient structures, learning about the lost civilizations of Peru.

Day 3: Tantamayo - Corona del Inca - Huanuco

At 6 am, we will have breakfast and depart for Huanuco. The journey will take us through scenic villages of the Huanuco highlands, including Chavin de Pariarca, Quivilla, Tingo Chico, and Ayapiteg, where we will view the Corona del Inca. We will return to Huanuco, arriving at 1 pm to drop you off at your hotel.

Lodging and meals

The tour includes two nights of accommodation in a double room with a shared bathroom in a rural hostel in Tantamayo. Additionally, 2 breakfasts, 2 lunches, and 2 dinners are provided. Breakfast includes coffee, tea, or mate with bread, cheese, butter, egg, rice, and broccoli. Lunch consists of soup and a main course (options: trout, steak, milanesa, fried chicken, stew, or vegetarian), along with a hot drink. Dinner will include a main course and hot beverage from the lunch menu.
