Churubamba & Papahuasi Valley Excursion
We'll pick you up at 8 am from your hotel in Huánuco and head along the left bank of the Huallaga River to the Papahuasi Valley, known for the development of its pre-Inca culture.
During the trip, we'll enjoy the landscapes of Huánuco Valley. Our first stop will be the town of Churubamba, where we will visit its district museum showcasing objects from the Papahuasi culture and other pre-Columbian civilizations, including the notable Papahuasi mummies.
Next, we visit the Church of Santa Cruz, a 17th-century temple linked to Father Alonso de Abad, who discovered the Boquerón del Padre Abad canyon. We will explore the history of this Franciscan monk and his association with the temple.
We will also view seven colonial chapels surrounding the Church of Santa Cruz in Churubamba, significant for Huánuco's Holy Week. These include the Church of San Juan Bautista in Cascay, the Church of San Pedro in Utao, and the Church of San Nicolás in Tambogan, all from the 17th century, with displays of traditional clothing and Quechua handicrafts at San Pedro.
The tour continues to a trout farm to observe local trout farming, followed by a visit to the colonial hacienda of Quenra to learn about the colonial landowners' lifestyle from the 1200s as we tour the estate and its farms.
Finally, we will return to Huánuco, dropping you off at your hotel by 2 pm.
