Churubamba & Papahuasi Valley Excursion
We will pick you up at 8 am from your hotel in Huánuco and travel along the left bank of the Huallaga River to the Papahuasi Valley, known for its pre-Inca culture.
During the trip, we will enjoy the landscapes of Huánuco. Our first stop is the town of Churubamba, where we will visit its district museum showcasing items from the Papahuasi culture and other pre-Columbian civilizations, including the notable Papahuasi mummies.
Next, we will visit the Church of Santa Cruz, a 17th-century temple linked with Father Alonso de Abad. We will explore his history and connection to the temple.
We will then pass by seven colonial chapels surrounding the Church of Santa Cruz in Churubamba, which symbolize the seven falls of Christ, significant during Huánuco's Holy Week.
Among these include the Church of San Juan Bautista in Cascay, the Church of San Pedro in Utao, and the Church of San Nicolás in Tambogan, all from the 17th century and containing remnants of the conquest. In San Pedro, we will also see traditional clothing and Quechua handicrafts.
Then, we will visit a trout farm to learn about local trout farming before heading to the colonial hacienda of Quenra to experience the lifestyle of colonial landowners from the 1200s.
Finally, we will return to Huánuco and drop you off at your hotel at 2 pm.
