Huallaga Valley Tour

  • 6 Stunden

With this tour of the Huallaga Valley, you'll travel through the ancient territory of the Chupacho tribe and discover how it has changed over the centuries by visiting its main attractions.

Huallaga Valley Tour

At 8 am, we'll pick you up at your hotel in Huanuco to go to the left bank of the Huallaga River, entering the Conchumayo River valley. Here lived the Chupachos tribe before the Spanish conquistadors arrived, colonized the valley, and built the Christian churches that we'll see today.

We'll begin the tour by visiting the church of the Holy Trinity, the first temple built by the conquistadors in this region in 1541. The church is located in the town of Pachabamba and contains a large 17th-century painting of "Christ Crucified" brought from Spain, a baptismal font from the 17th century, and other relics from the colonial era, such as the "Holy Land Stone".

Then, we'll continue to the 17th-century church of San Sebastian in the village of Quera, where we'll see objects such as furniture decorated with gold leaf and a pulpit carved with images of Christian saints.

Next, we'll make a last stop to see the Puyhuan. This natural monument is thousands of years old, significant in local legends, and used for Andean rituals, such as the ceremony of payment to the Earth.

Finally, we'll return to Huanuco and drop you off at your accommodation at 2 pm.
