Racchi Ayllu Community Visit + Andean Weaving Workshop

Visit the Racchi Ayllu community and engage with locals to learn about their ancestral textile techniques. Participate in a hands-on weaving workshop to craft a garment.

Tour Options

There are two booking options, both starting at kilometer 35 in Racchi Ayllu. Each includes an English-speaking guide, materials for the weaving workshop, and food for llamas and alpacas, along with a lunch that consists of soup, a main course, and a seasonal fruit drink.

Details for each tour option are as follows:

Bracelet Workshop (2 Hours and 40 Minutes)

The experience includes a warm welcome and lunch, followed by interacting with llamas and alpacas. A visit to the guinea pig barn will provide insights into domestication practices. Engage in a bracelet weaving workshop led by local craftswomen, discussing the textile creation process from wool sourcing to dyeing.

At the end, there is an opportunity to purchase hand-woven textiles.

Schedule: daily at 12 noon, 1 pm, and 2 pm.

Waist Weaving Workshop (4 Hours)

This option includes feeding llamas and alpacas while learning about guinea pig domestication. Gain insights into the textile processes and the social mission to empower vulnerable women.

Work alongside a craftswoman to learn about dyeing and participate in hand spinning wool, dyeing wool, and waist weaving with sheep and alpaca fibers. At the workshop’s conclusion, you can take home dyed wool and the belt created, as well as purchase handcrafted items.
