Black Pottery Workshop in La Chamba
During this black pottery workshop, participants will learn about the ancient craft tradition and create clay objects. The experience begins at 9 am at Carrera 6, focusing on aspects of Colombian indigenous culture.
The group will travel to La Chamba, stopping in El Espinal for breakfast. La Chamba is renowned for its artisan tradition rooted in the Yoropogos Indians. The local community specializes in creating items from black clay, including pots, vessels, figurines, and other utensils.
At 10 am, there will be a visit to an artisan center to learn about the processes for creating black ceramic objects. Participants will also see popular clay figurines, particularly the Mohán, a seated man smoking tobacco.
After this, attendees will have the chance to practice their pottery skills by modeling black ceramic figures while wearing aprons, experiencing the life of an artisan.
Following the workshop, the group will visit the Magdalena River, the source of the clay, for a walk along its banks. A traditional lunch will be provided at a local farm, and the afternoon is free for swimming. The return to Ibagué will occur around 6 pm, concluding the day at the original meeting point.
