Iquitos Guided Tour
At 9 am, we'll meet at the central Avenida Antonio Raimondi to start a comprehensive tour of Iquitos. During the tour, we'll discover the main attractions of this city located on the banks of the Amazon River and delve into its history.
We'll make our way through the historic center of Iquitos, admiring mansions decorated with tiles that were once brought from Europe during the rubber fever of the late 19th century.
Strolling down the street, we'll come across the façade of the Casa de Fierro, designed by Gustave Eiffel. Then, we'll arrive at the Museum of Indigenous Amazonian Cultures, where we'll see handicrafts, textiles, and other objects belonging to different ethnic groups in the area.
The next stop will be at the popular Mercado de Belén, a market where we can witness the local lifestyle amidst the continuous activity. Fruits, fish, meat products, and more are found here.
After exploring the market, we'll go to a restaurant for about an hour free for lunch. After lunch, we'll board a minibus to visit a manatee rescue center, where we'll learn about efforts to save these aquatic mammals from extinction.
The last stop of the tour will be at the Quistococha Zoo, home to Amazonian species such as jaguars, monkeys, tapirs, caimans, snakes, and macaws. You'll be able to see them up close!
At 5 pm, the tour will finish back at the starting point.
