Nauta & Amazon River Source Adventure
Your day begins with a 9 am pickup from your hotel in Iquitos, followed by a road trip to Nauta, a friendly town nestled in Loreto Province.
As we travel, we'll navigate through the vibrant wetlands and lush forests within the Quistococha National Tourist Park, and pass by the unique 'chamizales' and 'varillales' plant formations characterized by their white sandy soils found in the Allpahuayo Mishana National Reserve. This area is a birdwatcher's paradise where we may encounter numerous endemic bird species.
By 10:30 am, we will reach Nauta, one of the key river ports of the Peruvian Amazon. Here, we'll embark on a tour of the town and visit Sapi Sapi lagoon, home to wildlife such as the taricaya turtle, crocodiles, and the enormous pirarucu fish. Additionally, tales of mythical beings said to dwell beneath the lagoon's surface add a sense of mystery to our visit… come along to unearth these legends!
After our explorations, we will pause for a revitalizing picnic lunch. Following our meal, we’ll enjoy a gentle cruise on the Marañon River aboard a motorboat, leading us to the confluence where the Ucayali River meets the Amazon.
After approximately two hours on the water, we’ll arrive in the village of Grau, where we'll be rewarded with stunning vistas from the Mirador del Amazonas. After soaking in the breathtaking scenery, we will make our way back to Nauta by boat.
Finally, we will drive back to Iquitos, with an estimated arrival time at your hotel around 5:30 pm.
