Discover the wild side of the Amazon rainforest in Peru when you take this trip to Pacaya Samiria National Park. Birds, mammals, and fish all form part of the rich diversity of this reserve.
Day Trip Details
At the scheduled time, we’ll pick you up from your hotel in central Iquitos to board a bus to Nauta, a town in the Loreto province.
After a two-hour drive, we’ll tour around this town in the middle of the Amazon rainforest, observing the main square and surrounding streets.
Around 8 am, we’ll head to the port to board a boat that will take us along the Marañón River and the Ucayali River, which together form the source of the Amazon River.
During the ride, we might spot a sloth, a colorful bird, or even gray and pink dolphins in the waters.
We’ll then head toward the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve for a hiking route through a protected area of over 20,000 square kilometers, home to 208 villages from 56 indigenous communities.
In the rainy season, you might encounter lizards, taricayas, and charapas. In warmer months, we’ll observe birds, monkeys, and amphibians. We’ll admire the giant trees and lush surroundings.
After hiking, we’ll return to the boat for a meal featuring a traditional regional dish called “Juane,” along with salads, fruits, and mineral water.
We will also participate in traditional fishing to catch piranhas and other species in the reserve’s lagoons.
Finally, we’ll return to the dock for the bus ride back to Iquitos, concluding the day trip after 13 to 14 hours.
