6-Day Yanayacu River Expedition
Day 1
Your adventure begins with a 9:15 am pickup from your hotel in Iquitos. A transfer will lead you to the city port where a boat journey will transport you to your base camp.
Upon arrival, a delightful buffet lunch awaits, followed by a walk that allows you to immerse yourself in the vibrant nature around you. This is also the perfect opportunity to spot the pygmy marmoset, noted as the smallest primate globally, all while witnessing a breathtaking sunset by a serene lagoon.
As night falls, indulge in a satisfying dinner before venturing into the jungle by boat to seek out the elusive alligators.
Day 2
After a hearty breakfast, set off for the Sapote lagoon and the Moena lagoon, where you’ll be greeted by birds, sloths, and charming little monkeys swinging through the trees.
Following a nourishing meal, those interested can attempt to catch piranhas in the Corriente and Purura lagoons. Later, turn your attention to observing the hoatzin, an extraordinary bird displaying striking colors. The day concludes with a dinner and a thrilling night exploration in search of tarantulas and frogs.
Day 3
Your third day brings the opportunity to witness the remarkable pink dolphins of the Amazon. You'll also encounter iguanas and one of the world's largest aquatic plants: the Victoria Regia. After lunch, a boat ride to Juanachi Lagoon will allow for bird watching. A captivating night tour awaits after dinner.
Day 4
Enjoy a scrumptious breakfast before some participants opt to camp in a secluded area, gaining a true taste of the Amazon rainforest. In this remote spot, a picnic lunch will be provided, and you can even try your hand at catching fish for dinner.
Day 5
Those who experienced jungle camping will enjoy a picnic breakfast before returning to the base camp. Here, together you'll share a meal before embarking towards San Juan de Yanayacu, where you'll gain insights into life along the Amazon riverbank. After a snack back at the cabins, prepare for an exciting night walk to search for giant frogs.
Day 6
On the final day of this adventure, set off to explore the Amazon River as you make your way to the Sapote Lagoon. Here, a variety of birds congregate, providing a beautiful spectacle. The trip continues to Moena Lagoon, where you can observe sloths relaxing on their branches.
Following your boat excursion, savor a buffet lunch before returning to Iquitos, arriving around 4 pm.
