Orongo and Rano Kau Volcano Trip
At the indicated time, we'll collect you from your hotel and start a journey back to ancient times. The first stop is at Vinapu, an archaeological site featuring intricately carved stones and magnificent Ahu stone platforms reminiscent of Inca constructions in Cuzco.
Next, we'll head to the Rano Kau volcano. We'll walk along its eroded sides and reach the top, where a large crater houses one of the three freshwater lakes of Easter Island. From this vantage point, you'll enjoy views of the landscape and the islets where the Rapa Nui performed significant religious ceremonies.
Close to the Rano Kau volcano, you will find the ruins of the ceremonial town of Orongo. Here, you will see oval-shaped stone statues overlooking the ocean, associated with the followers of the Makemake god. During the visit to the archaeological site, you will observe petroglyphs depicting the feats of the “birdmen”, who participated in an annual race to retrieve the first egg of the season.
By the end of the tour, you'll have explored the legends and traditions of the ancient inhabitants of Easter Island. The excursion concludes 3 hours after pickup back at the hotel.
