Step into the ancient past of Easter Island with this trip to the ceremonial village of Orongo and the Rano Kaa volcano. Prepare to be astounded!
Orongo and Rano Kau Volcano Trip
At the indicated time, we'll collect you from your hotel and begin the journey to ancient times. The first stop is at Vinapu, an archaeological site with intricately carved stones and impressive Ahu stone platforms resembling Inca constructions in Cuzco.
Next, we will visit the Rano Kau volcano. We will walk along the eroded sides of the volcano and reach the top, where the large crater features one of the three freshwater lakes of Easter Island. From here, you will have views of the landscape and the three islets where the Rapa Nui people swam annually for a religious ceremony.
Near the Rano Kau volcano, you will find the ruins of the ceremonial town of Orongo, where oval-shaped stone statues overlook the ocean. You will see numerous petroglyphs related to the “birdmen” races, wherein participants swam to collect the first egg of the season.
By the end of the tour, you'll have explored the legends and traditions of the ancient inhabitants of Easter Island. The excursion concludes 3 hours after pickup back at your hotel.
