Step into the ancient past of Easter Island with this day trip to the ceremonial village of Orongo and the Rano Kau volcano. Prepare to be astounded!
Orongo & Rano Kau Volcano Trip
At the indicated time, we'll collect you from your hotel and start a journey back to ancient times. The first stop is at Vinapu, an archaeological site with intricately carved stones and Ahu stone platforms resembling the famous Inca constructions in Cuzco.
Next, we'll head to the Rano Kau volcano. We'll walk along its eroded sides to reach the top and see the large crater that contains one of the three freshwater lakes of Easter Island. Here, you'll enjoy views of the landscape and the three islets where the Rapa Nui people performed an important religious ceremony.
Close to the Rano Kau volcano, you'll find the ruins of the ceremonial town of Orongo. You'll see oval-shaped stone statues and numerous petroglyphs depicting the feats of the “birdmen.”
The tour concludes 3 hours after pickup back at the hotel.
Itinerary Changes
Please note that the archaeological site of Orongo is closed until further notice due to construction. This stop will be replaced with a visit to Caleta Hango Pike, a ceremonial complex associated with several Ahu platforms. This area was significant in the 19th century as it became a port through which goods were transported to and from the mainland.
