Private Tour of Ispica
We will meet in front of the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore in Ispica and begin an exploration of this town in Ragusa known for "Il Commissario Montalbano." The tour starts with a visit to the Basilica, an 18th-century architectural example showcasing Baroque and Rococo styles, featuring exquisite statues and 26 frescoes by the painter Sozzi.
Inside the Basilica, we'll see the statue of the Most Holy Christ Flagellated at the Column, a symbol from Holy Thursday processions on Easter. Recognized as a National Monument in 1908, the church includes a loggia designed by architect Sinatra, inspired by St. Peter's Basilica in Rome.
As we walk through the narrow streets of the historic center, which was meticulously rebuilt after the 1693 earthquake, we will also view the Palazzo Bruno di Belmonte, now the town hall.
After a two-hour guided tour, we will conclude in front of the Basilica of the Santissima Annunziata, known for its splendid Baroque features.
