Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, and Suleymaniye Mosque. On this tour of the mosques of Istanbul, we'll visit some of the most important religious landmarks of the Old City.
Istanbul Mosque Tour
We'll meet at the German Fountain in Sultanahmet at the scheduled time to begin our tour of the mosques of Istanbul. First, we'll walk to Hagia Sophia, built in the 6th century AD by Byzantine Emperor Justinian I. This site has served as a cathedral, mosque, and museum. A guide will explain its exterior, after which you can tour the interior with an audio guide.
Next, we'll visit the Blue Mosque, originally known as the Sultan Ahmed Mosque, famous for its blue tiles and geometric patterns.
The final stop will be the Suleymaniye Mosque, the largest mosque in Istanbul for over 450 years, designed by the renowned Mimar Sinan, chief Ottoman architect during the reigns of Suleiman the Magnificent, Selim II, and Murad III.
After a 4-hour tour of Istanbul's mosques, we'll conclude at the meeting point.
