Travel back in time to the medieval Rajput era visiting the ancient monuments of Chand Baori and the Harshat Mata Temple, architectural jewels of Abhaneri.
Private Day Trip to Abhaneri
After being picked up from your hotel in Jaipur, you will travel east towards Rajasthan. Following a two-hour drive, you will reach the village of Abhaneri, where medieval architecture allows you to explore the history of the Rajputs, a warrior caste that ruled much of Rajasthan from the 6th to the 12th centuries.
Your first stop will be the Chand Baori in Abhaneri, one of India's deepest and largest stepwells. Its 3500 narrow steps descend approximately 100 feet (30 m) into the ground, providing water for public baths for over a thousand years. These wells were crucial during the drier seasons to utilize the abundant water from the monsoons. You will learn about the ancient construction techniques used to create this engineering masterpiece, built without modern technology.
Next to Chand Baori is the Harshat Mata Temple, built in the 7th and 8th centuries. Although partially ruined due to an invasion in the 10th century, it remains a significant example of ancient Indian architecture. Inside, you can admire elaborately carved stone sculptures that narrate stories of Hindu religion and culture.
Concluding your tour, you will visit a local restaurant to enjoy typical Indian cuisine (not included), before returning to your hotel in Jaipur.
