Travel back in time to the medieval Rajput era visiting the ancient monuments of Chand Baori and the Harshat Mata Temple, the architectural jewels of Abhaneri.
Private Day Trip to Abhaneri
After being picked up from your hotel in Jaipur, you will head east toward Rajasthan. Following an approximately two-hour drive, you will arrive in the village of Abhaneri. The medieval architecture here allows you to delve into the history of the Rajputs, who controlled most of what is now Rajasthan between the 6th and 12th centuries.
Your first stop will be at the Chand Baori in Abhaneri, one of the deepest and largest stepwells in India. Its 3500 narrow steps lead down approximately 100 feet (30 m) to a well, where water has been stored for public baths for more than a thousand years. These structures were essential for utilizing the abundant water brought by the monsoons during drier seasons. You will learn about the ancient construction techniques used in this engineering masterpiece.
Next to Chand Baori, you will see the Harshat Mata Temple, built in the 7th and 8th centuries. The temple, although partially in ruins due to invasion and damage in the 10th century, remains a significant example of ancient Indian architecture. Inside, you can admire elaborately carved stone sculptures that reflect Hindu religion and culture.
Concluding the tour, you will visit a local restaurant to enjoy typical Indian cuisine (not included) before returning to your hotel in Jaipur.
