Day Trip to Garni & Geghard
- 5 - 6 Stunden
Uncover Armenia's rich history on this excursion from Yerevan, where we'll explore the iconic Garni Temple and the awe-inspiring Geghard Monastery. It's an experience you won’t want to miss!
Tour Details
At the scheduled time, we'll meet at 96 Nalbandyan Street in Yerevan to begin our journey exploring Armenia's historical treasures.
Our first stop is Garni, located about 30 kilometers (19 miles) from Yerevan. Along the way, we’ll take a break at Charents Arch, a monument built in 1957 honoring Armenian poet Yeghishe Charents. Here, you’ll enjoy views of the Ararat Valley and Mount Masis.
Next, we’ll arrive at the Garni Temple, a key symbol of Armenia's ancient pagan culture. During a one-hour guided tour, you’ll explore the ruins of the royal palace and the baths featuring a preserved mosaic.
If visiting between March 1 and November 15, we’ll stop at the Symphony of Stones, a natural formation of basalt columns resembling a cathedral.
A lavash-making workshop will follow, where in 40 minutes, you’ll learn to bake traditional bread and taste your freshly baked lavash with cheese and fresh herbs.
We’ll then proceed to the Geghard Monastery, a 13th-century complex and UNESCO World Heritage Site. During an hour-long guided tour, you will explore its rock-cut churches.
Finally, we’ll return to the starting point in Yerevan, wrapping up the tour after five to six hours of exploration.
Itinerary Adjustments
Due to winter road conditions, the Symphony of Stones will not be included in the itinerary for trips between November 16 and February 28.
