Have you ever heard of the Kolla culture? Do you know what chullpas are? We'll find out on this tour of Sillustani as we explore Peru's pre-Inca past by visiting one of the most amazing burial complexes in the country.
Sillustani Tour
Between 1:50 pm and 2 pm, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Juliaca and drive to the Juliaca burial complex by minibus. The journey will take approximately one hour.
Once there, we'll spend two hours exploring these archaeological ruins of pre-Inca origin. Walking through the hills surrounding Lake Umayo, we'll see several cylindrical formations, called chullpas. Most of them belong to the Kolla, or Colla, culture, which inhabited these lands before the Incas. We'll find out what these towers signify.
We'll learn about the beliefs and traditions of the Colla people, approaching the chullpas, where nobles, priests and rulers of this ancient civilization were mummified and buried. Many of these tombs face east and are filled with food and precious metals. Come along to find out why!
We'll finish the tour at 6 pm and drop you off at your hotel in Juliaca.
Tour ending in Puno
If you prefer, instead of taking you back to Juliaca, we can end the tour in Puno. We'll drop you off at any central location or hotel of your choice.
