Ramses II left behind one of Egypt's great monumental complexes for posterity: the temples of Abu Simbel. Decode their secrets on this excursion.
Tour Highlights
We'll pick you up at your hotel to travel to the Cairo Airport for a flight to Abu Simbel, located in southern Egypt.
Upon arrival, we will proceed to a guided tour of the Abu Simbel temples. Ramses II, known as the 'builder pharaoh,' ordered the construction of monumental structures in Nubia to signify his power. The Aswan Dam construction in 1960 endangered these UNESCO World Heritage Sites, but they were relocated to preserve them.
After winning the battle of Qadesh, Ramses II sought to impress his people with a great temple dedicated to the Gods. We will explore this site, entering through the main door, where two large sculptures of Ramses II stand guard.
We will also visit the Smaller Temple, dedicated to Nefertari, Ramses II's favorite wife, allowing you to decipher some of the Hieroglyphs carved into the rock. We will then proceed inside to uncover more secrets of ancient Egypt.
After the archaeological site visit, we will head to the nearby Abu Simbel airport, located 20 minutes from the temples. We will then fly back to Cairo and return you to your hotel.
