The Coptic neighborhood of Cairo, the Christian part of the Egyptian capital, plays host to a great historic and monumental heritage. Discover it with this guided tour.

Description

After hotel pickup, we proceed to Cairo's Coptic neighborhood to explore the history of Christianity in Egypt and the differences between Coptic Catholics and Coptic Orthodox Christians. Both groups have unique temples that will be visited during the tour.

First, we visit the church of Saint Maria the Virgin, known as The Hanging Church of Cairo, built over the old gates of the Babylon fortress. Inside, we will see various works of art and mosaics from different historical periods.

The tour continues at the Church of St. George, the orthodox church, and the church of Saints Sergius and Bacchus, where it is believed the holy family hid from King Herod.

To deepen our understanding of the Coptic tradition, we will visit the Cairo Coptic Museum, which features a permanent exhibition of sacred and decorative objects, including the famous Nag Hammadi Manuscripts, known as the "Gospel of Judas," a subject of theological controversy.

After the museum visit, we will have lunch at a traditional restaurant in the Coptic neighborhood, featuring various specialties, including a main dish of meat and rice. Following lunch, we will return to the hotel.
