This free tour of the Little Mermaid and the Port of Copenhagen is an opportunity to explore the Danish capital's maritime history and its most famous statue.
Description
At the specified time, we will meet at number 14 Amaliegade to start the free tour of Copenhagen. The itinerary includes visits to several notable sites.
We will first pass by the Copenhagen Opera House and then proceed to St Alban's Church, the only Anglican church in Denmark, known for its neo-Gothic style. Following this, we will visit the Amalie Gardens, a green space connected to Amalienborg Palace, where we will discuss Denmark's colonial history and the Fireburn Revolt.
Next, we will explore Kastellet Fortress, one of the oldest fortresses in Northern Europe, leading us to the Little Mermaid sculpture, an icon inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's story. Nearby, we will also view the Gefion Fountain, associated with the legend of the island of Zealand's creation.
We will then head to Nyboder, renowned for its historical orange houses from 1757, built for the Royal Danish Navy. The tour concludes at Kongens Have, The King's Garden, after approximately 2.5 hours.
