Let yourself be captivated by the picturesque Danish town of Roskilde. Discover its beautiful fjord, charming historic centre and fascinating Viking Ship Museum. The perfect day trip from Copenhagen!
Roskilde Day Trip Details
Meet your English-speaking guide at the Copenhagen Central Station in the morning. You'll take the train to Roskilde, arriving after approximately 25 minutes.
Enjoy a guided walking tour of this historic city, admiring the architecture of the Gothic Cathedral, built during the 12th and 13th centuries and recognised by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. This church is the final resting place of 39 Danish monarchs. Your guide will share facts about the history of the famous royals.
Continue to the Viking Ship Museum, located at the harbour of the Roskilde Fjord. Among the exhibited vessels is the longest Viking warship in the world, which is 118 feet (36 m) long. It also houses the Skuldelev ships, five original Viking boats sunk nearly 1000 years ago to protect the city.
After your museum visit, return to Roskilde station to take the train back to Copenhagen, arriving about 4 hours later.
Free Time
Instead of returning to Copenhagen with your tour group around 1 pm, you may opt to spend the rest of your day in Roskilde. You can enjoy lunch, visit the Cathedral, or take a Viking boat trip on the Fjord. If you choose to stay, please check the train times for your return to Copenhagen.
