Tour Overview
We'll gather at the entrance of the Old Fortress of Corfu at the specified time, ready to commence this memorable exploration of the symbolic landmarks of the island's capital.
Initially, a leisurely walk will take us through the picturesque pathways of the Boschetto Garden. From this serene location, we'll proceed to the magnificent Palace of St. Michael and St. George, a former summer retreat for a Greek royal family, which now accommodates the Museum of Asian Art of Corfu.
Continuing along the charming pedestrian thoroughfare known as Listón, we'll arrive at Spianada Square. This is the principal square of old Corfu and ranks among the largest in Europe. You might be intrigued to learn that cricket matches occasionally unfold in one part of this square—join us to find out more!
Next, we'll take a moment to appreciate the historic Teatro di San Giacomo, which served as the heart of Greek opera from 1733 until 1893 and was once the rehearsal space for the renowned Antonio Vivaldi. In 1903, it transitioned to become the City Hall.
Our journey will then lead us to the Jewish Quarter, where you'll uncover the rich history of Corfu's Jewish community, tracing its roots back to the 12th century and its significant influence on the island's cultural development.
We will conclude this engaging 2.5-hour tour back in the old town, bringing us full circle to our starting point.
