On this guided tour of Corfu, you'll explore the history among two Venetian fortresses in the island's capital.
Tour Details
At the scheduled time, we will meet at the entrance of the Old Fortress of Corfu to begin this guided tour of the island's capital's most emblematic sites.
The tour will commence with a stroll through the tree-filled walkway of the Boschetto Garden, leading to the Palace of St. Michael and St. George, once a summer residence for a royal Greek family and now home to the Museum of Asian Art of Corfu.
Next, we will walk along the pedestrian street of Listón to reach Spianada Square, the largest square in Corfu's old town and one of Europe's largest. The square is also known for occasional cricket games, and we will discuss its significance.
We will then view the Teatro di San Giacomo, which served as the center of Greek opera from 1733 to 1893 and was where Antonio Vivaldi rehearsed before becoming the City Hall in 1903.
Finally, we will visit the Jewish Quarter to learn about the history of the Jewish community in Corfu, dating back to the 12th century, and its impact on the island's society.
This 2.5-hour tour will conclude in the old town, near the starting point.
