Communism Tour of Krakow
At the scheduled time, we'll meet at the front door of St. Mary's Basilica to start a tour that will take you back to the communist era in Krakow. During the guided tour, we'll visit the most important monuments of the communist period.
We'll explore the end of the German occupation after World War II and the birth of the Polish People's Republic. Walking around the exterior of the Universities of Science and Technology and the University of Agriculture, we'll see sculptures that highlight the significance of communism in Krakow and Poland.
Our expert guide will answer questions about the way of life of the Polish population, the establishment of socialism in Poland, and the city's development under this regime. You'll gain insight into the history of Krakow.
We will visit areas where the Polish communist regime used repression against the population, discussing some of the darkest episodes in Krakow's history.
The tour includes a visit to the headquarters of the Solidarity trade union and old factories near the city center. Additionally, we will stop at one of Krakow's famous milk bars, a symbol of life during that time.
Finally, we will reach the Jubilat building, the largest supermarket in Krakow during the communist era. The tour lasts 2 hours.
