Cz?stochowa is an industrial town in southern Poland known for the Jasna Góra Monastery, established by the Pauline monks in 1382. This site has become renowned for housing a prominent painting of the Virgin Mary and the Christ Child.
The monastery gained fame in the 17th century when three hundred men defended it against a siege of 12,000 Swedish armed forces, considered the first miracle of the Black Madonna.
Today, the relic of the Virgin Mary is the most revered relic in Poland and a national symbol.
