High volcanic walls and one of the best-preserved pine forests in Gran Canaria take centre stage on this hiking route through the Inagua Natural Reserve.
Hike Details
At 8 am, we meet at Avenida San Nicolás in La Aldea de San Nicolás, then take a 20-minute taxi ride to Degollada de Tasarte. From there, we begin our hike through the Inagua Natural Reserve.
The route will lead us to the high walls of an ancient volcano that is 14.5 million years old. We will enter the Inagua Natural Reserve, known for one of the best-preserved natural pine forests on the island. We will observe the biodiversity of the Canary Islands, with trees that provide a habitat for birds such as the blue chaffinch, blue tits, and woodpeckers.
During the hike, we will reach an altitude of 1000 metres (3280 feet) and enjoy views of the massifs of the west of Gran Canaria and the Caldera de Tejeda. On clear days, the island of Tenerife and the silhouette of Teide can also be seen.
As we descend to La Aldea de San Nicolás, we will discuss the native peoples of the Canary Islands, known as the Guanches.
We expect to return to the starting point around 2 pm, concluding the activity.
