Neo-Andean Architecture Tour
- 3 - 4 Stunden
Discover a fascinating architectural movement in Bolivia on our Neo-Andean Architecture Tour in El Alto. We'll see some contemporary buildings designed in this style by Freddy Mamani.
Neo-Andean Architecture Tour
At 9 am, we'll meet at the La Paz purple cable car station to travel west of the capital towards El Alto.
In the cable car, you'll have a unique view of La Paz and the opportunity to take photos. El Alto is situated at an average elevation of 13,100 feet (4,000 metres) and has experienced rapid growth, providing its inhabitants with an enviable economic status.
Upon arrival, the guide will explain how architecture has shaped this development through the construction of brightly coloured and futuristic mansions. You will observe the fusion of pre-Colombian civilizations and modern trends in these iconic Neo-Andean houses, also known as cholets in Spanish.
We'll walk around El Alto to see these buildings and learn about Freddy Mamani, the most prominent indigenous architect of this style. Additionally, we'll use public transport to view the best cholets in the area.
During the tour, we will also visit shops featuring traditional costumes for the Preste, an indigenous festivity in the Bolivian Andes.
Finally, we'll take the cable car back to La Paz, concluding our tour between 12 pm and 12:30 pm.
