Discover a fascinating architectural movement in Bolivia on our Neo-Andean Architecture Tour in El Alto. We'll see some of the contemporary buildings designed in this style by Freddy Mamani.
Neo-Andean Architecture Tour
At 9 am, we'll meet at the La Paz purple cable car station to make our way west of the capital towards the town of El Alto.
As soon as you're in the cable car cabin, you'll see La Paz from a unique perspective and be able to take photos of the city. El Alto is located at an average elevation of 13,100 feet (4,000 metres) and has experienced accelerated growth, improving the economic status of its inhabitants.
Upon arrival, the guide will explain how architecture has influenced this development through brightly colored and futuristic mansions. You'll observe the fusion of pre-Colombian civilizations and modern trends in the iconic Neo-Andean houses, known as cholets in Spanish.
We'll stroll around El Alto to see these constructions and learn about Freddy Mamani, the most well-known indigenous architect of this style. Additionally, we'll take public transport in El Alto to see the best cholets around.
During our tour, we'll also visit shops offering traditional costumes for the Preste, an indigenous festivity in the Bolivian Andes.
Finally, we'll take the cable car back to La Paz, where we'll conclude our tour between 12 pm and 12:30 pm.
