Discover a fascinating architectural movement in Bolivia on our Neo-Andean Architecture Tour in El Alto, focusing on contemporary buildings by Freddy Mamani.
Neo-Andean Architecture Tour
At 9 am, we will meet at the La Paz purple cable car station and travel west towards El Alto.
Inside the cable car, you will enjoy unique views of La Paz, located at an average elevation of 13,100 feet (4,000 metres). This neighborhood has experienced rapid growth, contributing to its inhabitants' economic status.
Upon arrival, the guide will explain how architecture has shaped this development, showcasing brightly colored and futuristic mansions. These structures exemplify the fusion of pre-Colombian civilizations and modern trends, known as Neo-Andean houses or cholets.
We will explore El Alto and observe these constructions while learning about Freddy Mamani, the prominent indigenous architect. The tour also includes a ride on public transport to view the notable cholets in the area.
Additionally, we will visit shops offering traditional costumes for the Preste, an indigenous festival in the Bolivian Andes.
Finally, we will return via cable car to La Paz, concluding our tour between 12 pm and 12:30 pm.
