In the morning, we'll pick you up from your hotel in downtown La Paz before setting off for Mount Chacaltaya. After crossing the stunning Bolivian altiplano for around two hours, we will arrive at the base camp of the mountain.

Once there, we will take a short 650-foot hike up to the summit. At the top, you will enjoy one of the best panoramic views in all of Bolivia, where snow-capped peaks contrast with the typical Bolivian brown landscapes. After capturing this unforgettable scene on camera, we will descend from Chacaltaya and head to the famous Valle de la Luna.

When we arrive, we will explore this idyllic area on foot. Our walk here will be gentle as the altitude is low compared to other locations in Bolivia. Our guide will tell us the origin of these rock formations and the fascinating story behind how this area earned its name.

Our trip to Valley of the Moon and Mount Chacaltaya finishes by returning to La Paz in midafternoon, leaving you at the Plaza de San Francisco.

How does it work?

You will start your adventure with a morning pick-up from your hotel in the historical center of La Paz. The journey to Mount Chacaltaya takes approximately two hours, during which you'll cross the breathtaking Bolivian altiplano. Once at the base camp, a 650-foot hike will take you to the summit, where panoramic views await.

After enjoying the scenery, you will descend and continue to Valle de la Luna, where a guided walk will allow you to learn about the unique rock formations. The walk is manageable due to the lower altitude, ensuring an enjoyable experience.
