If you're visiting La Rochelle, you can't miss a visit to its medieval towers, the unmistakable symbolic landmarks of the enchanting French city.
What to expect
In the Old Port of La Rochelle, you will see three magnificent medieval towers that controlled the transit of merchant ships. Saint Nicholas, the Lantern, and Chaîne are 14th-century watchtowers built for the city's defense. With this ticket, you will have access to the Lantern tower, the only medieval lighthouse left on the Atlantic coast, as well as Saint Nicolas and Chaîne tower, which were used to monitor ship movements.

Note that between September and June, the towers will be closed on the first Monday of each month.
Special Opening Hours
On December 24 and 31, 2024, the towers will close at 4 pm. Final admission is always 45 minutes before closing. These times are flexible and may change.
Free Admission
Admission to La Rochelle is free for:
Young people from the EU between 18 and 25 years old.Children under 18 years old, regardless of nationality.
Admission is free for everyone on the first Sunday of the month from January 1 to March 31, and November 1 to December 31, as well as on the 3rd weekend in September. To acquire the free admission, visit the site’s ticket office with a certifying document.
Partial Closure
Due to technical reasons, the tower of San Nicolas will remain closed until further notice.
