Tapparelli d'Azeglio Castles Guided Tour

On this guided tour of the Tapparelli d'Azeglio Castles, we'll explore a collection of historic buildings located on the slopes of Monte Viso.

Tour Description

We will meet at the entrance to the Tapparelli d'Azeglio Castles in Lagnasco, a complex consisting of three buildings from the 1100 period. The fortresses, constructed between the late 11th century and the 18th century, are situated at the base of the Italian Alps. The guided visit will delve into the history within the castle walls and showcase the artworks housed there. In 1560, the castle served as the residence for the court of Emanuele Filiberto of Savoy and Marguerite de Valois.

Key areas include the Hall of the Coats of Arms with its extensive collection, and the loggetta delle magiche grottesche, featuring frescoes by Pietro Dolce, depicting impressive creatures reminiscent of Hieronymus Bosch's style.

The tour will highlight the architectural and artistic evolution of the castles, focusing on the frescoes and artworks from 17th-century Piedmontese Mannerism. The visit lasts for 45 minutes, concluding outside the Tapparelli d'Azeglio Castle complex.
