Mt Cook Day Trip from Tekapo
Embark on a day trip from Tekapo to Mt. Cook, the highest peak in New Zealand. The journey begins at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Tekapo, where you will board a vehicle to Mt. Cook.
The first stop is Lake Pukaki, known for its diverse water colors, ranging from light icy blue to deep dark blue, with potential views of Mt. Cook on clear days.
Next, head to Mt. Cook National Park (Aoraki) to explore at your own pace. You can choose between two hiking options: the Hooker Valley or the Tasman Glacier. The Hooker Valley hike features ice-covered cliffs and culminates at an ice-filled lake at Mt. Cook's base, where glacial sounds can be heard. Alternatively, the Tasman Glacier track offers views of terminal moraines and the glacier, river, and lake.
Lunch is provided by Fairlie Bakehouse, allowing you to enjoy local cuisine while taking in the park's scenery. You will also have time to visit the Mt. Cook Information Center to learn about the area's history.
Finally, the return trip to Tekapo will take approximately 5 hours, concluding the day's excursion.
