Description
Your visit to New Zealand wouldn't be complete without exploring the magnificent Mt. Cook, the pinnacle of the island's peaks. This day trip from Tekapo offers a chance to discover the tallest mountain in the country.
Itinerary
Commencing from the Church of the Good Shepherd in Tekapo, we will embark on our adventure towards Mt. Cook, the highest summit of New Zealand. The first stop will be at Lake Pukaki, where the unique hues of the water will captivate you; these can shift from a gentle icy blue to a rich, dark blue depending on the day's weather. With a bit of luck and a clear sky, Mt. Cook will be visible from this vantage point!
Continuing our journey, we will proceed to the renowned Mt. Cook National Park, also recognized as Aoraki. Here, you'll have the opportunity to explore at your leisure. Whether you choose the Hooker Valley or the Tasman Glacier, there's an adventure waiting for you!
If you select Hooker Valley, prepare to hike beside ice-covered cliffs that lead to a glacial lake at Mt. Cook's base. Keep your senses tuned; you might just hear the glacier in motion.
Alternatively, the pathway to the Tasman Glacier will take you through the moraines left behind by the glacier, providing breathtaking vistas of the glacier, the river, and the lake.
Afterward, enjoy a delightful lunch featuring local Kiwi fare from Fairlie Bakehouse, all while taking in the park's breathtaking scenery. You'll have the chance to unwind at the Mt. Cook Information Center, immersing yourself in the area's fascinating history.
In conclusion, we will regroup for the return trip to Tekapo, bringing you back to the initial meeting point approximately five hours later.
