On this tour of Valle de la Luna, Talampaya, and Laguna Brava, we will explore the desert landscapes west of La Rioja in 2 days.
Trip Details
Day 1: Valle de la Luna - Talampaya
After picking you up from your hotel in La Rioja, we will travel to Ischigualasto Provincial Park, also known as Valle de la Luna. Following a 2.5-hour drive, we will embark on a vehicle tour through unique rock formations including the Bowling Green, Submarine, Mushroom, Red Cliffs, and Museum.
After the tour, you will have free time to rest and have lunch at the visitor centre before heading to Talampaya National Park. Here, we will observe the effects of over 45 million years of erosion in this significant arid landscape. The tour will include a canyon visit with stops to see petroglyphs like the Gothic Cathedral, the Monk, and the Botanical Garden.
The day concludes after a total of 12 hours back at your hotel in Villa Unión.
Day 2: Laguna Brava
Following your pick-up from Villa Unión, we will head to Laguna Brava Provincial Reserve. The journey includes views of La Quebrada de la Troya and the Vinchina River. After 10 kilometres (6.2 miles), we will reach Quebrada del Peñón, leading to the entrance of Laguna Brava.
Upon entering the park, we will observe the lagoon system typical of the Andes, particularly Laguna Brava, known for its white and pink flamingos against a backdrop of snow-capped mountains. This day will finish around 8 pm back at your hotel in La Rioja.
