Embark on an adventure to one of the highest summits in the Americas with this day trip to the Incapillo crater. Experience the beauty of a stunning lake, observe vicuñas, and marvel at magnificent rock formations!
Description
Around the designated hour, we will meet you at your accommodation in La Rioja and, before daybreak, traverse the region's spectacular landscapes towards the Incapillo crater, recognized as one of the province's natural treasures.
As we embark on our 4x4 adventure towards the Quebrada del Peñón, the first light of dawn will illuminate the landscape, leading us into the Laguna Brava Provincial Reserve, a striking natural area featuring saltwater lagoons where we will observe vicuñas and guanacos, emblematic species of the Andes.
Next, we'll explore the Pampa del Veladero, a desert valley home to unusual ice mounds that have emerged from a fascinating natural phenomenon. After this, you will have some leisure time to rest and refuel with your packed meals.
Once we've satisfied our appetites, we will proceed along the Veladero River towards Mount Pissis, which soars over 6,800 meters (22,000 feet) high, marking it as the second-highest peak in the Americas. Our journey will conclude near the Incapillo crater, positioned at an altitude of 5,500 meters (18,000 feet), where a stunning meltwater lake awaits us.
We’ll take a leisurely excursion around the Incapillo crater, allowing ample time to appreciate the breathtaking scenery at your own pace. Be sure to capture the moments with your camera! Following the hike, we’ll gather back at the 4x4 and start our return journey to La Rioja.
After an exhilarating 15-hour experience, we will drop you off back at your hotel.
