Day Trip to the Incapillo Crater

Conquer one of the highest peaks in the Americas on this day trip to the Incapillo crater. A stunning lake, vicuñas and magnificent rock formations await!

Description

At the indicated time, we will pick you up from your hotel in La Rioja and, before sunrise, we will head towards the Incapillo crater, one of the natural jewels of the province.

During our 4x4 journey to the Quebrada del Peñón, the dawn light will start to emerge, leading us into the Laguna Brava Provincial Reserve, a notable natural area with saltwater lagoons where we will see vicuñas and guanacos, typical species of the Andes.

Next, we will explore the Pampa del Veladero, a desert valley known for its ice mounds resulting from a natural phenomenon. You will have some free time for a break and to eat the food you have brought.

After we finish eating, we will continue along the Veladero River to Mount Pissis, which stands over 6,800 metres (22,000 feet) above sea level, making it the second-highest peak in the Americas. We will then reach Incapillo, a crater at 5,500 metres (18,000 feet) where a lake formed by meltwater awaits.

We will walk around the Incapillo crater, taking time to enjoy the scenery. After our hike, we will return to the 4x4 and start our journey back to La Rioja. After 15 hours of adventure, we will conclude the activity at your hotel.
