Description
The Provence region has three Cistercian abbeys, one being Le Thoronet Abbey located near the town of Le Thoronet. This 12th-century monastery was established by the Order of Cistercians for spiritual retreat and scriptural study.
Key areas include The Cloister at the center, the lavabo washing fountain, and the dormitory with monks' sleeping cells. Visitors can see the traditional medieval architecture, such as the Abbey Church, refectory, sacristy, chapter house, and armariums.
Opening times
Le Thoronet Abbey is open daily:
October 1 - March 31: 10 am to 1 pm and 2 pm to 5 pmApril 1 - September 30: 10 am to 6:30 pm
On December 24 and 31, the abbey closes at 3:30 pm. Last entry is 45 minutes before closing. Note: timings are flexible and subject to change.
Free admission
Free admission to Le Thoronet Abbey applies to:
EU citizens aged 18-25.Children under 18, regardless of nationality.
Additionally, free entry is available on the first Sunday of each month from January to March and November to December, and during the 3rd weekend of September.
