Lecce Walking Tour

Baroque churches and the ruins of ancient Roman buildings await on our walking tour of Lecce. We'll immerse ourselves in this southern Italian city's monumental legacy as we stroll through its historic old town.

Tour Details

We'll meet at the scheduled time in the Piazza Sant'Oronzo to commence our walking tour of Lecce, known as the Florence of the South.

During our walk through the historic centre, we will explore the remnants of the Roman Empire, including the theatre and amphitheatre from the 2nd century AD.

We will view the façade of the Castle of Charles V, built in 1539. The tour will also highlight Lecce's connections to the Spanish Crown as we pass by Renaissance buildings like Vernazza Palace, along with several churches showcasing Baroque features.

We will admire the Church of San Giuseppe and the decorative details on the Basilica of Santa Croce, discussing the dragons on its façade related to the Battle of Lepanto.

Additionally, we'll visit the exterior of Lecce Cathedral and its square, which includes the Episcopal Palace and the seminary.

After 1 hour 30 minutes of exploration, we will conclude our walking tour back at the starting point.
