Tour Details
We will meet at the scheduled time in the Piazza Sant'Oronzo to commence our walking tour of Lecce, often referred to as the Florence of the South.
As we walk through the historic center, we will revisit the Roman Empire period. Highlights include the theatre and the amphitheatre, both dating back to the 2nd century AD.
The tour includes a view of the Castle of Charles V, erected in 1539, and an exploration of Lecce's connections to the Spanish Crown, featuring Renaissance buildings such as Vernazza Palace, along with various churches adorned with Baroque details.
We will admire the Church of San Giuseppe and the decorative features of the Basilica of Santa Croce, discussing the dragons on its façade associated with the Battle of Lepanto.
The tour also covers the exterior of Lecce Cathedral and its square, where the Episcopal Palace and the seminary are located.
After 1 hour and 30 minutes, we will conclude our walking tour at the starting point.
