Lismore Guided Tour
At 2 pm we'll meet on West Street to start this guided tour of Lismore, during which we'll learn about the history of this Irish city in County Waterford.
We'll begin by walking down Lismore's oldest street, exploring its Celtic origins, Viking invasions, and Norman settlements. Nearby, we'll find the old railroad station, which was active until the 1960s before becoming a residential area.
Another significant site we will visit is the Famine Graveyard, a remnant of a tragic period in the city's history. Next, we will admire the St. Carthage Cathedral from the outside to observe the details of its façade.
We will then head to Lismore Castle, situated on a hill overlooking the Blackwater River. This fortress has hosted notable guests, including King Henry II, Fred Astaire, and John F. Kennedy.
Finally, after a 50-minute guided walking tour of Lismore, we will conclude our route with a return to the starting point.
