Ancient walls, breathtaking castles, and the Portuguese surfing paradise await us on this excursion to Obidos and Nazare from Lisbon - definitely a must-see location!
Description
Having met at the scheduled time at the Praça Marquês de Pombal, we'll head north from this central point of Lisbon towards the town of Obidos. Obidos is considered one of the most beautiful medieval towns in Portugal.
We'll start our guided tour of Obidos by the Porta da Vila tower. After going under its arch, we'll enter the old town. Its scenic cobblestone streets will transport us back to medieval times, highlighting its historical significance.
As we walk through the old town, we'll see the outline of the walls and admire the imposing facade of the castle of Obidos, a 12th-century fortress and one of the Seven Wonders of Portugal. We'll also stop in front of the aqueduct, an impressive engineering work.
Our tour of Obidos will continue on the Rua Dereita. You'll have a free hour for lunch on this street, the main thoroughfare lined with stores and restaurants. We recommend trying a traditional stew called ensopado de enguias.
After lunch, we'll head north to visit the coastal town of Nazare, a leading surfing destination in Portugal. You'll have about an hour of free time to explore the seaside streets and enjoy views from the Mirador de Subero.
Lastly, we'll return from Nazare to the meeting point in Lisbon, concluding 6 hours of sightseeing.
