On this free tour of the Royal Albert Dock, we will explore the Liverpool promenade, a site rich with historical significance. This tour is ideal for those interested in history.

Description

The tour begins at Derby Square. We will walk to the Royal Albert Dock, which was crucial during World War II, serving as a key location for the supply and transport of troops and supplies. Evidence of this period remains visible.

We will then visit the Customs House and delve into its history, from its inception as the first Wet Dock to its current state.

The harbor's buildings, including commercial warehouses and customs offices, narrate Liverpool's growth as a commercial and port hub. Each structure plays a role in the history of the Albert Dock.

Next, we will proceed to Pier Head, a site integral to maritime trade and significant events in the city.

During the tour, we will view key landmarks such as the Liver Building, Cunard Building, and Port of Liverpool Building, collectively known as the Three Graces of Liverpool, which hold both architectural and historical value.

The tour concludes at Mann Island with a view of the Mersey River, where we will discuss George's Dock, the precursor to the Albert Dock and a pivotal site in Liverpool's maritime history. The tour lasts for 2 hours.
