On this guided tour of the Loulé salt mine, you'll learn about one of the oldest trades in the Algarve and see an art exhibition dedicated to Santa Barbara, the Patron Saint of Miners.

When booking, you can choose between the following options:

Salt Mine Tour

At the indicated time, we'll meet at the entrance of the Loulé salt mine and start a guided tour inside. We'll first take an elevator that descends 754.5 ft (230 meters) deep.

Then, we'll step out onto the saline floor and follow a circular path through some of the mine's galleries. We'll admire the size and beauty of its walls, formed by salt rocks of various colors, which were created more than 230 million years ago.

We'll also learn about the salt extraction process and the evolution of the engineering and mining machinery used in this work.

Finally, after 1.5 hours of exploring, we'll end the tour by returning outside.

Salt Mine Tour + Art Exhibition

This option includes the guided tour of the Loulé salt mine and an exhibition of Santa Barbara, the Patron Saint of Miners and Other Arts, located in one of the mine's galleries.

You can see sculptures, paintings, and religious pieces related to her worshippers and learn about the techniques used to create these works of art from around the world.
