Abydos and Dendera Temple Excursion
- 10 Stunden
On this excursion, we will travel from Luxor to Abydos and Dendera, two cities along the Nile known for their temples.
Itinerary
We will pick you up at your hotel or boat and depart for Abydos, located 260 km northeast of Luxor.
In Abydos, we will visit the temple built by Set I in honor of Osiris, which features significant scenes from the reigns of Set I and Ramses II, as well as the Royal Lists detailing the names of 77 Egyptian kings from Menes to Set I. Abydos was a significant religious center and pilgrimage site, showcasing representations of the "Mysteries of Osiris" ceremony.
After a picnic lunch, we will proceed to Dendera.
The Dendera Temple, dedicated to the goddess Hathor, began construction during Nectanebo I's reign and continued into the Roman era. It includes two decorated crypts, two halls with columned ceilings, and two funeral chapels, which house the famous "zodiac" from the Louvre.
We will make a final stop at the Temple of Isis before returning to Luxor, with drop-off around 5 to 6 pm.
Pickup
This activity includes pickup and drop-off at hotels and boats in Luxor on the eastern banks of the River Nile. Return drop-off will be at the same location. For hotels or boats on the western banks, a meeting point will be confirmed on the eastern side.
