Zaruma Day Trip

At 8:00 am, we will pick you up from your hotel in Machala and board the minibus to head east towards Portovelo. We will visit the Magnet Turner Mineralogical Museum, learning about the properties of the local stones and minerals in Ecuador.

The next stop will be Zaruma, one of the oldest cities in the country. In its historic centre, we will review the origins marked by tradition and religion. Our walking tour will include the Virgen del Carmen church, the Plaza de la Independencia, and the colourful wooden houses that characterize Zaruma.

We will then visit the famous Zaruma mines, entering the El Sexmo mine to explore the daily life of the workers in its underground tunnels and learn about the main minerals extracted.

During the mine visit, we will see carts, safety suits, and other elements typical of this trade that has shaped the history of Zaruma.

Finally, we will return to the minibus and head back to Machala, arriving at 2:00 pm.
