Moray & the Maras Salt Mines Day Trip

On this excursion to Moray and the salt mines of Maras, we will discover key sites of the Sacred Valley of the Incas.

Description

We will pick you up at your hotel at the designated time and head to the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Our day trip begins at the village of Maras, retaining its colonial style and surrounded by scenic views. We will then visit the archaeological site of Moray, located at 3500 meters (11,500 feet) above sea level, thought to be an experimental farm utilized by the Incas over 500 years ago. Here, we will observe the amphitheater of circular terraces.

Next, we will ascend to a viewpoint to see the salt mines of Maras, dating back to the Inca period, comprising over 3 thousand salt ponds owned by local families. The salt is treated with iodine during the dry season and sold commercially.

After this, we will return to the meeting point to conclude our day trip.

Pickup

Please note we only pick up from the Plaza de Armas in Cusco or hotels in the historic center of Urubamba, Ollantaytambo, or Yucay. For those in remote areas, we will contact you before the tour to establish an alternative meeting point.
