Pico Island Tour
At the designated time, we'll meet at the pier of Pico Island. From there, we'll start our tour of Pico Island, passing through the picturesque island capital, Madalena.
On the outskirts of the city, we'll discover the oenological importance of the island as we pass through the UNESCO World Heritage wine-growing landscapes of Pico.
The tour will continue along the coast, arriving at the Pocinho pond, home to various migratory birds. This vineyard environment is overseen by the volcano that gives its name to the island. The massif, surrounding the Montaña do Pico Nature Reserve, is the highest peak in the Azores and Portugal at 2,351 metres above sea level.
After admiring the area's environmental richness, we'll take a break to taste traditional Pico cheese at the oldest cheese factory on the island. We'll then go to a local restaurant known for its fresh fish and local meat.
In the afternoon, we'll visit the Whalers' Museum, where you'll see model ships and various objects highlighting the importance of this industry on Pico Island.
We'll return to the north coast to admire the island of São Jorge. If you wish, you can take a dip. We'll then reach the Lajido village to taste Verdelho wine and finish the tour in Madalena after 8.5 hours.
