Pico Island Tour
We'll meet at 9:30 am at the Cais da Madalena Pico to start our tour, passing through the picturesque island capital, Madalena.
On the outskirts of the city, we will explore the UNESCO World Heritage wine-growing landscapes of Pico, which highlight the oenological significance of the island.
The tour continues along the coast to the Pocinho pond, where various migratory birds can be observed. This vineyard area is overseen by the volcano, the Montaña do Pico, the highest peak in the Azores and Portugal at 2351 meters above sea level.
Following our environmental explorations, we will take a break to taste traditional Pico cheese at the oldest cheese factory on the island. Then we will proceed to a local restaurant known for its fresh fish, squid, and shrimp.
In the afternoon, we will visit the Whalers' Museum, showcasing model ships and various artifacts that illustrate the historical importance of whaling on Pico Island.
We’ll return to the north coast for views of São Jorge island, with an opportunity to swim if desired. Finally, we will arrive at Lajido village to sample Verdelho wine before concluding the tour in Madalena at approximately 5:30 pm.
