Pico Island Tour
We'll meet at 9:30 am at the Cais da Madalena Pico to start our tour, passing through the island capital, Madalena.
On the outskirts, we'll explore the UNESCO World Heritage wine-growing landscapes of Pico, recognized for their oenological importance.
The tour continues along the coast to the Pocinho pond, home to various migratory birds, with views of the volcano that gives the island its name. The massif surrounding the Montaña do Pico Nature Reserve is the highest peak in the Azores and Portugal at 2351 metres above sea level.
After admiring the area's natural richness, we'll take a break to taste traditional Pico cheese at the oldest cheese factory on the island. A local restaurant known for fresh fish and local meat will also be visited.
In the afternoon, we'll visit the Whalers' Museum, showcasing model ships and objects that highlight the whaling industry on Pico.
We'll return to the north coast for views of São Jorge island, with an option to swim. The tour will conclude in Lajido village with a tasting of Verdelho wine before finishing in Madalena around 5:30 pm.
