Pico Island Tour
At the designated time, we will meet at the pier of Pico Island. The tour begins by passing through the picturesque island capital, Madalena.
We will explore the UNESCO World Heritage wine-growing landscapes of Pico, highlighting the oenological significance of the island.
The journey will continue along the coast, arriving at Pocinho pond, home to various migratory birds. The vineyard environment is dominated by the volcano after which the island is named, with the Montaña do Pico Nature Reserve being the highest peak in the Azores and Portugal at 2351 meters above sea level.
A break will be taken to taste traditional Pico cheese at the oldest cheese factory on the island. We will then enjoy a meal at a local restaurant known for fresh fish and local meat.
In the afternoon, we will visit the Whalers' Museum, showcasing model ships and artifacts relevant to this industry's significance on Pico Island.
We will return to the north coast to admire the island of São Jorge; a swimming opportunity is available if desired. The tour will conclude in Lajido village with a Verdelho wine tasting, finishing in Madalena 8.5 hours later.
