The Pico Island wines, grown from volcanic soil, are known for their high quality. Discover how and where they are made by visiting the island's vineyards and wineries.

Pico Island Wine Tour

We'll start this wine tour around Pico Island at the scheduled time from the Cais da Madalena Pico.

Our first stop will be at Moinho do Frade, famous for its wine-growing landscapes, which are a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The tour will continue to the Cooperativa do Vinho, where we'll enjoy a tasting of a variety of white, red and liqueur wines, including Frei Gigante, the most known white wine in the Azores.

Afterwards, we'll have lunch in a quaint restaurant featuring fresh products such as tuna or local meats, always accompanied by Pico wine.

We'll walk through black villages built with volcanic stones to reach Madalena. On the outskirts of this town is the Wine Museum, where we'll visit vineyards, wine presses, and other facilities to learn about grape cultivation. Notably, the largest dragon trees on the island of Pico are found there.

We'll visit a winery for a second tasting of local wines, including the traditional Verdelho do Pico.

The tour will end 8 hours after departure back at the starting point.
